RSL president ‘musters’ volunteers to support veteran and local community
Kevin Beasley, president, Glasshouse Country RSL Sub-branch, has called on 20 years experience in the Army to ‘muster’ local volunteers to help veterans and Sunshine Coast youth organisations.
The Caloundra Power Boat Club, Bunnings and Radio FM104.9 recognised his initiative and hard work in April with an award, including meal and gift vouchers.
Mr Beasley, ably supported by his wife Margaret, has been president, vice president, and secretary of the Glasshouse Country RSL that has 58 service members and 200 social members.
‘Our volunteers raise funds every Friday with a street raffle and open the club house for meals on a Friday night,’ Mr Beasley said.
‘I am accepting the award on behalf of all the volunteers at the club as it is a team effort to make a financial success of these events,’ he said. ‘Funds raised are used to run Anzac Day dawn services and marches in the Glasshouse and Landsborough areas, support Army, Navy and Air Force cadet units on the Sunshine Coast, and Guide and Scout groups.’ The cadet units return the support on Anzac Day by serving as catafalque parties at dawn services in Glasshouse Mountains and Landsborough.’‘In addition, the Naval cadets drum core plays for the local march.’‘Our club also has a volunteer welfare officer to support local veterans.’
Nominations for the monthly award can be made by emailing FM104.9 at email@example.com , detailing in 25 words the reason for the nomination.
